Mark 15
Mark 15 describes the trial, crucifixion, death, and burial of Jesus Christ. Early in the morning, Jewish leaders bound Jesus and brought Him to the Roman governor Pilate, accusing Him of claiming to be "King of the Jews," a charge with political implications. Pilate questions Jesus, who remains mostly silent, which amazes Pilate. Despite not finding Jesus guilty of a crime deserving death, Pilate capitulates to the crowd's demand to crucify Him.
Jesus is then mocked by Roman soldiers, crowned with thorns, spat upon, and led to be crucified. Simon of Cyrene is compelled to carry Jesus’ cross. At the crucifixion, darkness covers the land from noon for three hours, symbolizing God's judgment. Jesus utters the cry, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" before dying. A Roman centurion then confesses Jesus as the Son of God.
After His death, Jesus is buried by Joseph of Arimathea in a new tomb. Mark 15 is a key chapter highlighting Jesus’ suffering and the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy concerning the Messiah's rejection and atonement.
